Setting up Your YouTube Account

This article is for: WebinarJam Studio Users

Embedding and Live Streaming are required for the proper function of WebinarJam's live and replay webinars.

Turning on Embed

We advise you to follow the following steps now, just in case your account is impacted later.

YouTube requires Monetization to be enabled and a linked AdSense account for you to embed your live stream videos (a requirement for proper functioning of WebinarJam and EverWebinar).

Enable Features

Login to the YouTube account that you use for WebinarJam.

Then visit http://www.youtube.com/features and Enable Monetization, Live Streaming, and Embed Videos.  All three of these must be Enabled, they'll have a green line underneath.  See the red arrows in the image below. Yt5

Connect Adsense

Once you've clicked Enable on Monetization, Live Streaming, and Embed live streams (and agreed to any terms of service indicated, then click on the "active AdSense account" link under Paid Content and you'll see that you can connect an existing AdSense account or apply for a new one.

Follow the Adsense system instructions and it will guide you through the process.

We recommend using your YouTube channel for your website when creating your Adsense.

WARNING: After you've applied for an AdSense account, you'll get a response that accounts are under review and will take up to a week for approval.  However, Google Help informed us that "applications for AdSense from YouTube are usually reviewed within 48 hours".

Notice that your account may list paid content as "ineligible" as in the photo on the below. You may be ineligible for paid content because your YouTube account has less than 1,000 subscribers.  However, this will not prevent you from linking an AdSense account and subsequently embedding videos.  YouTube's eligibility criteria for paid content can be found here https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3249165?hl=en

NOTE: If you already have Adsense you will want to follow the instructions under the drop down "If you already have an approved Adsense" here https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/72866?hl=en. Configure Monetization

Visit https://www.youtube.com/advanced_settings and click the checkbox shown below to allow advertisements to be displayed with your videos.

While some users do not have to turn on Monetization others do. However YouTube does have a requirement of 10,000 channel views before you can earn money from your videos.

See: YouTube Monetization

Don't worry - as long as your video does not have a content ID claim or match to 3rd party content (i.e. have a copyright issue), ads will only show if  you monetize the specific video yourself.

Checking Embed and Changing Promotions

This confirms that your advanced settings allow your videos to be embedded.

It is also important so that any YouTube Subscribers you have do not see your test webinars, or watch webinars outside of the WebinarJam experience.

As far as promotions and privacy, setting up your Live Streaming on your channel with some default settings helps reduce the stress and worry of forgetting to change the settings during the webinar. We will cover those steps now. First, go to YouTube.com/live_dashboard

  1. Confirm you are on Live Streaming / Stream Now (Marked #1)
  2. Scroll down (Marked #2 Below)
  3. OPTIONAL: Change the Privacy setting to "Unlisted" from the dropdown.  (Marked #3 Below)
  4. Click "Advanced Settings" (Marked #4 Below)
This means that every Live streaming you do will be unlisted. But you can change it as necessary.
  • Be sure you are on "Advanced Settings" (Marked #1 Below)
  • OPTIONAL: Uncheck both boxes under "Promotions" (Marked #2 Below)
  • Confirm that Embedding is checked (marked #3 Below)
Read Troubleshooting Embed Settings if your Embedding is not allowed.

Test Your Webinar

Once your AdSense and Monetizations are set up- run a test webinar.  Once you confirm the video is functioning by logging in as an attendee, you can turn off video monetizations.

(Optional) Turn Off Monetization

Turn off Monetization on a Specific Video

To turn off ads on a specific video, go to the video page.  Click the pencil icon to edit the video settings Yt8   Then click on the Monetization tab under the video, and turn off the toggle switch.  In this image, monetization is still on.

Turn Monetization Off Your Channel

To turn off ads on your channel after embed is enabled, visit https://www.youtube.com/features and under Monetization, click the link to View Monetization Settings. In your monetization settings, click on the button to disable monetization.

NOTE: Our users report that the embed status continues to work, even if monetization has been turned off on their account. However, we recommend if you choose this option to turn off monetization you also test a webinar- if you see the correct video as an attendee on the test webinar, you're good to go. If not, re-enable monetization and test again.

Testing To See If It Works

You may not need to wait for Adsense to approve.  But either way we recommend running a test webinar before you do a live webinar.

Run the webinar as you normally would.

Then in another browser or ask a friend to login as an attendee.  If your video shows the following error, "Watch this video on YouTube. Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner" your account has been impacted.

If you see your test video, then all is well with your account.

If Not Working

Change Channels

Confirm that you are using the same channel as you have your Adsense on. Or follow the instructions on YouTube to activate Adsense on multiple Channels.

Contact YouTube Support

If you perform all of the above steps and are still getting the video embed error, then please contact YouTube's support team directly at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3545535  Their email support is available to every channel with monetization enabled.

YouTube Configuration Error

If you have gotten the error message "YouTube Configuration Error" as displayed below then a setting is not correct on your YouTube account.

Solution:

Please be sure you are logged into the same YouTube account that is displayed on your Connect YouTube Screen. It will appear in small writing below the "Connected" Button as displayed below as "Channel email"

WebinarJam Configuration Connect YouTube Connect

Then you will want to confirm your settings on your YouTube account are correct.

After you've adjusted your settings please go back to your Webinar Owner link and Retry.
