Videos: Playlists

If you want to add a series of videos to your Kartra pages, memberships, and your custom pages or blog, playlists are definitely the way to go. Playlists help keep your videos organized, allow them to transition seamlessly, and, best of all, everything you added to them in your Video Configuration, like tags and calls to action, will still be active.

So how do we create a playlist, exactly?

NOTE: Remember, to save any changes to your playlists, you will need to click the green Next/Continue button in the top right corner of the page until you see the green Finish button. Then, click the Finish button and your changes will be saved.

New Playlist

To add a playlist, you will need to go to Categories, (Marked #1 Below) and then go to Videos (Marked #2 Below) then choose Playlists from the dropdown that appears.Once there, click the green “Add Playlist” button to get started. Alternatively, you can click the pencil icon next to any playlist shown to edit it.

NOTE: Editing a playlist follows the exact same process as creating a new one.

You will then be given the ability to name your playlist. This name can be a maximum of 40 characters long, and it is for your reference only. Once you enter a name for your playlist, click the green Next button to continue.

Adding Videos to Your Playlist

Now for the bulk of your playlist: the videos themselves! The process of adding videos is super simple:

  1. Select one your of Kartra videos from the dropdown menu (marked #1 below).

  2. Click the blue Add button (marked #2 below).

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as needed.

Once you have added a few videos to your playlist, you can rearrange them using the up and down arrows to the left of each video thumbnail. If you click on the name of a video, you can watch that video to make sure it is the one you want.

You can remove a video from your playlist by clicking the red Delete button under Actions (marked #3 below). If you accidentally delete a video or you change your mind, you can easily re-add the video with the Add Video dropdown at the top of the page (marked #1 below).

You can also see the duration of each video in your playlist, and, at the bottom of the list, you can see how long the entire playlist is (marked #4 below).

Once you have finished adding videos to your playlist, click the green Continue button (marked #5 below) to proceed to the final step of your playlist setup.

Playlist Settings

Now that you have added some videos to your playlist, you can play around with how it will actually look and behave for your users. There are a number of options available here, which are all listed and described below.

Preview/Select Skin Color

The first thing you will probably notice is the preview image at the top of the page. This image will show you what the playlist controls will look like based on which skin color you have selected.

Directly under the preview image, you will see two arrows with nine dots between them. By clicking on these arrows, you can toggle which color/style of video controls your playlist will use. Alternatively, you can click each individual dot to select a specific color/style.

Show Controls

The “Show Controls” option toggles whether or not the video controls will be displayed on your video. If disabled, users will not be able to manually navigate through the videos in the playlist, skip around in the current video, adjust its volume, or go into fullscreen. Also, the play and pause buttons will only appear when you hover over the video, and the social share button (if enabled) will not appear.

Mute on Start

The “Mute on Start” option toggles whether or not your playlist will automatically be muted when it starts playing. This can help prevent startling your users with an autoplaying video when they visit your page.

Autoplay on Load

“Autoplay on Load” toggles whether or not your playlist will autoplay when the page is loaded.

Show Social Share

The “Show Social Share” option will display a button in the top right corner of your video player that will allow viewers to share your video on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and LinkedIn.

You can choose for your playlist to be responsive, which means it will resize with your browser window or with the container you place it in. You can also choose to have a fixed playlist, which will keep your video player the same size no matter what the width of the browser window or screen is.

Remember, once you have have finished editing your playlist settings, click the green Finish button in the top right corner of the page so that all your changes will be saved.

Sharing/Embedding a Playlist

Now that you have added a playlist to Kartra, you will want to put it on a Kartra page, membership, or a custom page or blog so people can see it. To do this:

  1. Click the Code button next to your playlist (marked #1 below).

  2. Copy the embed code that appears in the popup (marked #2 below).

  3. Paste the embed code wherever you would like your playlist to appear.
