How to Add Videos to Kartra

Kartra.com

Adding videos to your Kartra pages, memberships, and your custom pages or blog is a great way to make your products, services, and overall content much more dynamic, engaging, and memorable for your users. And, when you add your videos to Kartra (instead of using a third party source like YouTube) you are able to tag your viewers based on how they interact with your videos and even add calls to action directly into your videos.

So how do we add videos to Kartra?

NOTE: Remember, when editing your videos, always hit the green “Publish Video” button at the bottom of the page for any of your changes to be saved.

New Video

To add videos, you need to go to My Videos on the left sidebar, and then Videos from the top menu. This will take you directly to the video section.

Click the green “Add Video” button to get started. You will then be given two options to upload a video source file:

Upload One Video

Choose this option (marked #3 below) if you only want to upload a single video. This will take you to the Video Configuration page, where you can adjust all of the settings of your new video.

Upload Multiple Videos

Choose this option (marked #4 below) if you want to mass upload more than one video at the same time. Choosing this option will only allow you to edit the names of your videos while the rest of their respective settings will be set to our defaults. You can also add all these videos to a Project.

You are free to go back and edit these videos later.

New Project

Projects are used to group related videos together for performance analytics purposes. They can also be used to help you organize and sort through your videos, and they only exist for your reference. If you would like to publicly group videos together, you would want to create a Playlist.

By default, videos will not be added to a project.

Upload Video

Before you can adjust any of the other settings of your video, you will first need to upload one. In the “Upload Video” section of your Video Configuration, you will need to do the following:

  1. Enter the name of your video. This name is for your personal reference and will not be shown to users.

  2. OPTIONAL: Assign your video to a Project.

  3. Upload your Video File. Only MP4, FLV, MOV, and M4V file types are supported. Uploading a video may take a while depending on the size of your video file and your internet speed.

Preview

Once your video file has finishing uploading, you will see a preview of your video to the right. If you click on it, you can test your video to see how it will play.

The video Preview will automatically update to show any changes you make to your configuration as you make them, so it is a very handy tool to use before you publish your video.

Display

In the Display section of your Video Configuration, you can adjust how your video will be displayed on the page it is added to.

Video Display

You can choose to have your video embedded into your page, which means it will play like a normal video, directly on your page. If you choose “Pop up,” the video will play in a popup window.

You can click the question mark next to “Video Display” to see a preview of how each of these options will look.

Dimensions

You can choose for your video to be responsive, which means it will resize with your browser window or with the container you place it in. You can also choose to have a fixed video, which will keep your video the same size no matter what the width of the browser window or screen is.

Appearance

The Appearance section is where you really get to start playing with how your video will look.

Splash Image

Here, you are able to upload an image that will show before your video plays. Think of it like a video thumbnail on YouTube. Only JPG, PNG, and GIF image files less than 1 MB in size are allowed.

If you use a splash image, we recommend making it the same size as your video. By default, your video will display at 640x360 pixels (16x9 widescreen).

Show Controls

The “Show Controls” option toggles whether or not the video controls will be displayed on your video. If disabled, users will not be able to skip around in the video, adjust its volume, or go into fullscreen. Also, the play and pause buttons will only appear when you hover over the video.

Mute on Start

The “Mute on Start” option toggles whether or not your video will automatically be muted when it starts playing. This can help prevent startling your users with an autoplaying video when they visit your page.

Select Skin Color

The arrows beside “Select Skin Color” allow you to change the way the video controls will look. There are nine options to choose from. Feel free to play around here to find one you like.

Autoplay on Load

“Autoplay on Load” toggles whether or not your video will autoplay when the page is loaded.

Show Social Share

The “Show Social Share” option will display a button in the top right corner of your video that will allow viewers to share your video on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and LinkedIn.

Show Overlay Title

If you enable the “Show Overlay Title” option, you can add custom text, such as a video title or short description, to the top of your video.

Calls to Action

In Kartra, you are able to display Calls to Action directly on your videos. To add a new Call to Action, click the “New Call to Action” button. You will then see a popup that gives you the ability to add one of five different types of Calls to Action, which are listed below.

NOTE: When you are finished editing a Call to Action, do not forget to click the green Create/Edit button in the top right corner of the page.

Opt-In

This will display an Opt-In form right on top of your video, which will add someone to a list within Kartra. The video will be paused as long as the Opt-In form is displayed.

Image Banner

This will display an image in the center of your video. You can make the image link to another page, and the video will be paused as long as it is being displayed.

Caption

You can add a caption, which will appear in the bottom third of your video. You can also turn the caption into a link, which encourages more interaction from your users.

Caption and Button

Similar to the Caption Call to Action, the “Caption and Button” option will display a caption in the bottom third of your video. The main difference is that this option includes a button to the right side of your text.

Social Unlock

If you want your users to share your video, you should consider a Social Unlock Call to Action. It will pause your video and ask if your viewers want to share your video on social media using one of the buttons shown.

You have the option to make this mandatory to continue the video, which would be helpful if you only want the video to seen by those who share it first.

Tag Leads

One of the most useful things you can do with videos is tag your viewers based on how they interact with them. Using these tags, you can keep more easily follow up with these viewers based on this behavior or keep track of who is doing what with your videos.

To add a tag to your video, click the “New Tag” button. Then you will see three ways to tag viewers, which are listed and explained below.

Visit the Video Page

This type of tag will be applied as soon as the user visits the page this particular video has been added to. They do not even have to watch the video. To add a tag here:

  1. Select the category of the tag in the first dropdown (marked #1 below).

  2. Select the tag you want to add in the second dropdown (marked #2 below).

  3. Click the blue Add button (marked #3 below).

  4. Click the green Save button in the top right corner (marked #4 below).

At a Specific Time Through the Video

You can assign tags to viewers who watch your video to a specific time, like 30 seconds or four and a half minutes, for example. To add a time specific tag:

  1. Enter the time stamp where you want the tag to be applied (marked #1 below).

  2. Select the category of the tag in the first dropdown (marked #2 below).

  3. Select the tag you want to add in the second dropdown (marked #3 below).

  4. Click the blue Add button (marked #4 below).

  5. Click the green Save button in the top right corner (marked #5 below).

Executes a Call to Action

Tagging viewers based on executing Calls to Action creates all kinds of versatile possibilities for you. To add a Call to Action tag:

  1. Select which Call to Action to add the tag to (marked #1 below).

  2. Select the category of the tag in the second dropdown (marked #2 below).

  3. Select the tag you want to add in the third dropdown (marked #3 below).

  4. Click the blue Add button (marked #4 below).

  5. Click the green Save button in the top right corner (marked #5 below).

End Actions

Finally, you are able to customize what happens when your video ends. If your video is in a Playlist, the End Action you set here will be ignored, so keep that in mind if you plan on including it in a playlist.

There are four options for End Actions, which are listed and explained below.

Just End Video

The “Just End Video” option will simply end the video without anything extra happening.

Loop This Video From the Beginning

Select this option if you want your video to play on an endless loop.

Play Another Kartra Video

If you have another video you would like to play immediately after this one but do not want to create a Playlist, then select the “Play Another Kartra Video” option. You will be given a dropdown menu with a list of all your Kartra videos to choose from.

Redirect to a URL

If you want your page to be redirected to another URL when the video ends, select the “Redirect to a URL” option. This can be extremely useful on a pre-sales page that leads into a checkout form.

You have the option to make your redirect either a regular link (http://) and a secure link (https://). The redirect will take place in the same tab, so be sure that you want your users to be taken away from the current page before you use this option.

Remember, once you have finished editing your Video Configuration, always click the green “Publish Video” button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
