WebinarJam Requirements

This article is for:

Because WebinarJam allows you and multiple presenters to live stream, chat, make offers and more, we have some minimum recommendations for computers.

Basic Recommendations

Minimum requirements for running WebinarJam as a presenter

  • i3 3Ghz Dual Core (lower-model CPUs, e.g. Pentium and Celeron, are not advised)
  • 4Gb RAM
  • 5mbs internet connection

Recommended requirements for running WebinarJam as a presenter

  • i5 3Ghz Quad Core
  • 8Gb RAM

Close any non-essential programs, windows, and tabs on your computer, so just WebinarJam and any programs you need for your presentation are operating. Streaming a live event requires quite a few resources, so shutting down programs like DropBox or Spotify that may run in the background will provide a better webinar experience.

New User Recommendation:

Alternatively, create a new user on your computer with minimal programs and browser add ons to use just for webinars.

We also recommend adding a wallpaper that displays your company name and url to the user for your webinars so if you share your screen your logo and web address display.

Operating systems

WebinarJam supports the current version and the 2 previous major releases of the operating systems listed below.
  • Mac OS X
  • Windows

Web browsers

WebinarJam supports the current version and 1 previous major release of the browsers listed below.

Camera & microphone

You will also need a USB web camera and microphone or a webcam.

See Our Recommendations for Webcams, Cameras, and Microphones.

While BlackMagic may work, the Magewell XI100DUSB-HDMI USB Capture HDMI 3.0 HD Video Capture Dongle is virtually plugin ready.

Additional Camera & Microphone Information

You'll need to let WebinarJam use your camera and microphone when you start a Webinar.  This includes downloading and installing the latest version of the WebinarJam plugin.

You will also need a USB web camera and microphone or a webcam.

After clicking the Live Room link for your WebinarJam, you'll be sent to a page to "Test Your Video and Audio". It is during this time that you can choose a different Camera or Microphone if necessary.  Look in your address bar of your browser for the Camera Icon as you can control which Camera or Microphone directly into your browser.

You can see it will look similar to the image below, but the icon may be on the left or right side of the address bar depending on the computer and browser

  • Frame rate up 60 fps

Ideal minimum bandwidth for Video Calls

  • Outbound from the Presenters: 4.5 mbps
  • Inbound to the Attendee: 3 mbps

You can check your bandwidth speed with SpeedTest. If your bandwidth is the minimum or less, then you may want to change your video settings from HD (High Definition) to SD (Standard definition) or (LD Low definition).

  • 1280 x 720 (HD): High definition (HD) video uses more data, but your camera will send a better quality picture.
    • Video Bitrate Range: 6+ mbps
  • 640 x 360 (SD): Standard definition (SD) video uses less data, but your camera will send a good quality picture.
    • Video Bitrate Range: 4-6 mbps
  • 320 x 180 (LD): Low definition (SD) video uses even less data, but your camera will send a lower quality picture.
    • Video Bitrate Range: 3-4 mbps
